Ink Drawings

Waterside

A quick pen sketch I did of a waterside rock face, but it could be interpreted in many ways. A place of fantasy and mystery comes to mind. Or even a stingray hiding under a rock.

Earth Magic Empress Dress

It is drawn with pencil and inked with Mont Marte markers. Inspired by Avatar the Airbender attire to create a futuristic, earth magic style dress. I envision the character who wears it to have great strength and self-control.

Industrial Ghost Ship

Using Artline pens I chase a feeling of calm alongside a vague image of a lost city to create this drawing. I look at this piece with lots of wonder.

Confident Kanji

I took out an old ink drawing bag that came into my possession years ago when I was in Japan. The bag contains a set of kanji calligraphy tools. This includes black ink, a bamboo mat full of brushes, bamboo pen, paper weights, ink writing stick, and an ink stone. Using some new brushes, I started practicing by painting lines, swirls, and patterns.

After researching some of my favourite kanji I practiced writing them. Kanji painting is a very calming experience. The lines need to be accurate, but the brush also needs to flow on the paper.

Beyond The River

I continued my ink journey by drawing a river landscape which challenged me to draw in different styles. I then wanted to draw someone in motion, so I drew a young samurai practicing with his sword. However, the samurai ended up looking stiff. I hope to be able to express active movement better as I continue to draw.

The Performer

A drawing of Aveina, the transsexual street performer. Aveina has many skills and here he is performing his balancing act while readying his staff bow. He wears clothes that he sewed himself, while also creating a home for a plant on his head.

Legendary Bird

I picked up a pen and drew entirely by making it up as I go. This kind of drawing style is the most relaxing to me, as it is when my mind is most quiet and calm. I enjoy drawing simple curved lines to capture three dimensional shapes.

Wonder Ball

The idea for the Wonder Ball was built around visualising four dimensions.

ATM Monster

I had a bad dream where an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) ate all of its customers that who walked towards it. When I woke up, I further expanded the imagination into this Japanese horror style.

Sandcastle Village

Drawing things stacking on top of each other is satisfying.

Crest Flag Diamond

The next five drawings are of a project I gave to myself. I wanted to create a set of crests that symbolise otherworldly clan groups. Each chest is hung on a flag, with unique identifying features and colours.

Japanese Box

I enjoy trying to open an occasional puzzle box. Here I tried to make a design for the outside of a puzzle box.

Mini Mapping

I love drawing maps of rooms, dungeons, cities, islands, and creating a massive world around it all. A map can tell us so much about the contents of the world.
