Resin Work

I did a bunch of research and bought the basics to make resin crafts including clear epoxy resin, clear resin hardener, moulds, sandpaper, and polish. This started me and my mother’s joined multi-sessional journey into making resin crafts. The first thing we did is go to the park and pick fallen leaves, flowers, and nuts that we liked to use in our craft.

After feeling inspired by our walk, we accumulated some other items we also wanted to use, and we picked a long day to begin our resin pouring and item placing. Once it was dry, we set up days to sandpaper then polish both our work. Even though some of the resin work had to be thrown out due to partial resin enclosures, I am quite happy with the final results.

Advent Calendar Christmas Gift

A gift for my partner to make every day special from the 1st of December untill Christmas Day. I bought the hard cardboard shelving and painted it with acrylic paint. Each box drawer representing a different part of him or the things he likes. For example, the 2nd being Pokemon themed or the 16th being our cats Felix and Rosie. Some of the themes are guessable while others are slightly more personalised, each day holding a little treat.

 The Howler

Made with origami-folded red cardboard paper, tea aged paper, felt ribbon, golden stamped wax and all handwritten in black ink. The ribbon with the wax on it can be slipped off, and the letter can be opened and closed. It looks so pretty.

Golden Snitch

Inspired by the Harry Potter series, using the movies as reference I crafted the golden snitch. The golden snitch stands on a circular wooden board, magnetically place on the screw to allow removal. The ball is a multi-coated ping pong ball with wire and beads on it. The wings are double layered hard, transparent plastic with a wire through it. This is so the wings are fitted with the ability to change positions. The vibrant gold paint was specially ordered for this project as my previous acrylic gold looked quite dull. There is some roughness to the piece, but I am happy with the end result.

The Sirius Black Wanted Sign

Starting with a foamboard and using a xacto knife to cut out a square in the centre.  This is to frame someone face in the wanted sign to mimic Sirius Black. I printed out bits of Adobe Illustrator edited lettering and glued it on, then slightly aging the board with light shades of paint.

Ocean Marble Coaster

Made from blending multiple colours of polymer clay, lined with thick, jute twine with a cork base. Been using it at home and it is a great coaster for tea.

Spider-man Mask String Art

I made this for a special someone over a long weekend. This was my first time trying out string art, so I did a bunch of research and found a clear reference to get started. I cut some spare wood for the base and sanded it down. The white string I used for the eyes is thinner and slightly stretchy because I wanted the rest of the colours to stand out more. Overall, it took a longer time than I expected, detailed job but was a very enjoyable experience.

Golden Snitch Collage

Made a birthday card for someone who is a big Harry Potter fan. The coloured paper and the white snitch is glued onto a thin cardboard. Then with multiple sized ink pens I outlined the cut-out paper. I also added a silver glittery string to the top of both the golden snitch’s wings. I think the perspective of the quidditch rings looks odd, but I really wanted to emphasize the quidditch pitch in the background.

Robot love Collage

Got bored at home one day and used an old chocolate box to make a collage. The idea was to make it look like a framed picture of a robot couple. But in retrospect I think I could make this more interesting and three dimensional in many different ways. Next time I want to add either a background lighting effect, or create a multi-layered collage with foreground, background and mid ground elements.

Broken Chair Structure

Designed and built for a Design course where the teachers evaluated every step of the developments process. The assignment was to create our own wooden chair. My concept was built around the idea of being an object being broken, yet beautiful in its own way and useful. During this time, I was struggling with thoughts of “how am I useful to myself, others, and society?’, and this project help me find my answer.

Outback Home Structure

Collected a bunch of cardboard pieces and created a multi-levelled hill. On top of the hill, I imagined a small paradise within the outback desert. I wanted the structure to be minimalistic and something anyone could craft from random household objects. So I only used cardboard, glue, nails, and paint. I hoped to express the idea that you can find art anywhere.

Tonal Exercise Black

In a Design course, I was taught to combined tones, shades and tints in different ways to express different things. These are my designs from that project. I remember thinking of a motel wallpaper, which wallpaper to be used, in which part of the motel, and why?
